RAJASTHANI JEWELLERY
Jewellery in Rajasthan is of magnitude that has parhaps few parllels.
Rajasthan Jewellery lies in varity and aesthetics. It is, infact a
part of the Indian culture, a facet of its social pattern with deep
reeligious overtones. A special jewellery item is connected with every
sansakar which are the important landmarks in the life an individual,
i.e. the Naming of the Child, Sart of Education, Religious Initiation,
Marriage, Death etc. Rajasthani Jewellery may be divided into two
kinds - the heavy silver ornaments worn in the rural areas by all
classes of peoples and the delicate highly sophisticated pieces that
adoen the urban women.Taste for jewellery in Rajasthan, is rather
traditional. The men wore rings on single or many of the fingers of
their hands, it was studded with preccious jewels, preferably a coloured
one. The royal personages while holding a court and other on festive
occasions, used to wear an ornament called sarpech on their turbans.
This was often studded with precious jewels. With ladies in Rajasthan,
wearing of ornaments has been a matter of emotional consideration,
the marriage starts with the presents of ornaments to the bride and
this treasure belongs to her and the husband has no right over it
at any time before her death. Some of the ornaments are wore only
by the married ladies and they dislodge them when they become widows. |
