SOUTH JEWELLERY
The exquisite style of south Indian jewellery comes from the influence
of theTemple art. Temple jewellery, as they came to be called, were
designed by master craftsmen of Tamil Nadu, South India, centuries
ago. These adorned the icons of the Gods and Goddesses in temples.
The royalty, who then reigned over the land, patronized them. Earrings
and Necklaces are prominent among the variety of temple designs whereas,
bangles and rings are few. The variety in necklaces includes pendants
with exquisite Floral, peacock and parrot motifs. Variations have
been used in the traditional motifs. The jewellery is made of silver
with gold plated and semi-precious stones. These are much lighter
in weight and are affordable. Slight variations to the designs have
been made to suite the modern trend. |
